New York City’s food scene is a dynamic, ever-evolving tapestry of flavors, cultures, and innovation. From Michelin-starred restaurants to unassuming food carts, the city offers an unparalleled culinary experience. Amid this bustling landscape, food influencers have emerged as key players, guiding locals and tourists alike to the best bites the city has to offer. Among them is Max Hoffmann (@maxhoffmann), a Manhattan native and trained pastry chef whose deep-rooted connection to the city’s food culture has made him a standout voice in the digital culinary world.
Max Hoffmann’s journey into the world of food began at home. His parents, self-proclaimed foodies, instilled in him a love for good food and an appreciation for the diversity of New York’s dining scene. “My dad was an incredible self-taught cook, and my mom was ‘really good at ordering in,’ as she liked to say,” Max recalls. “She was always in tune with the newest restaurant openings in the city.” This early exposure to the culinary world sparked Max’s curiosity and passion for food.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Max decided to take his love for food to the next level. He enrolled in online cooking courses, inspired by his father’s skills in the kitchen, and discovered a particular talent for baking. “I wanted to learn to cook like my dad, but I also had a desire to satiate my mom’s sweet tooth,” he says. This newfound passion led him to the Institute of Culinary Education, where he earned a degree in Pastry and Baking Arts.
Tragically, Max lost both of his parents three years ago. In their memory, he turned to social media to share his culinary creations and insights into the New York food scene. “I wanted to honor their passion for food,” he explains. What started as a personal tribute has since blossomed into a thriving platform where Max connects with thousands of food enthusiasts.
“New York City is one of the few places where you can try every cuisine at its finest.”

What sets Max apart from other food influencers is his deep-rooted connection to New York City. Born and raised in Manhattan, he has spent nearly three decades immersed in the city’s culinary culture. “New York City is one of the few places where you can try every cuisine at its finest,” he says. “I love being able to expose my audience to all the endless food possibilities that come from being born and raised here.”
Max’s content is a refreshing mix of high-end dining and hidden gems. While many influencers focus on trendy, hard-to-book restaurants, Max shines a spotlight on underappreciated eateries. “There are so many incredible restaurants in New York that go unnoticed or fall under the radar,” he says. “I love highlighting those places the most.”
His industry knowledge as a trained pastry chef also adds a layer of expertise to his content. Whether he’s reviewing a new bakery or sharing a recipe, Max’s insights are informed by both his professional training and his personal experiences.
One of the most rewarding aspects of Max’s journey has been the opportunity to collaborate with restaurants and brands. A standout moment was his partnership with Popup Bagels, a beloved NYC bagel shop. Together, they created a “Sweet Basil Cream Cheese” inspired by one of Max’s personal ice cream recipes. “It was so fun to see it come to life,” he says.
Looking ahead, Max hopes to expand his collaborations and continue growing his platform. He’s particularly excited about an upcoming project with PopChew, a smash burger joint, which pays homage to his Manhattan upbringing. “Hint: think NYC pretzel cart!” he teases.
Max’s ultimate dream is to transition from social media to television. “There are a lot of shows that briefly highlight New York, but none dedicated to it entirely,” he says. “There’s so much to explore and share!”
“We wanted to create a space for young people to talk about grief.”

In addition to his food content, Max has recently ventured into podcasting. Alongside co-host Emely, he launched Young Grief, a podcast that explores the impact of losing a loved one at a young age. “We realized that so many conversations around grief were missing the voices of young people,” he explains. The podcast has been a deeply personal and rewarding project, allowing Max to connect with others who have experienced similar losses.
Max’s content offers a unique blend of authenticity, expertise, and passion. His deep understanding of New York’s food scene, combined with his professional training and personal storytelling, makes his platform a must-follow for anyone who loves food. “I give a glimpse into the real food scene,” he says. “Not just the fancy restaurants that nobody can get a reservation at, but the hole-in-the-wall places that are just as good.”
As New York’s food scene continues to evolve, Max Hoffmann remains a trusted guide, celebrating the city’s culinary diversity and sharing his love for food with the world. Whether he’s collaborating with a local eatery, sharing a recipe, or discussing grief on his podcast, Max’s journey is a testament to the power of food to connect, heal, and inspire.
