This Harvard MD’s Platform Is Helping Therapists Earn More While Reaching the Underserved

Dr. Harry Ritter

At the intersection of medicine, entrepreneurship, and social impact, Dr. Harry Ritter is rewriting the script for mental health care in America. As Founder and CEO of Alma, Ritter has built one of the country’s most impactful tech-enabled mental health platforms, one designed to support providers, serve clients, and prioritize equity at every step.

Based in the New York City metropolitan area, the trained physician and former Oscar Health executive is now spearheading a mission to make mental wellness more inclusive, data-informed, and sustainably delivered.

Alma: A Platform Centered on Providers and Purpose

Founded in 2017, Alma is a mental health network and platform that helps licensed therapists and mental health professionals manage their practices, offer virtual care, and connect with new clients, while equipping them with tools for measurement-based outcomes and insurance navigation.

Ritter’s approach is unique: he puts providers at the center, building systems of trust, efficiency, and autonomy that allow clinicians to focus on what matters, healing.

“When providers are supported, patients thrive,” he shared on the HLTH Matters podcast, emphasizing Alma’s data-driven and partnership-powered growth.

A Leader in Mental Health Equity and Inclusion

One of Alma’s boldest moves under Ritter’s leadership is its commitment to equity. In 2023, the platform launched the Empowering Minds Scholarship Fund, awarding $50,000 across 10 scholarships to aspiring mental health professionals from marginalized communities.

The initiative includes therapy access and mentorship, aiming to strengthen diversity among future mental health clinicians, a critical step toward bridging care gaps in underserved populations.

Ritter also uses Alma’s platform to highlight minority mental health challenges, frequently sharing insights on Minority Stress Theory and the value of culturally competent care during Minority Mental Health Awareness Month.

Integrating Values, Ritual, and Resilience

What sets Ritter apart isn’t just his operational leadership, it’s his human-centered philosophy. In public writings and interviews, he shares how weekly Shabbat observance helps him reset, reflect, and lead Alma with clarity and intention.

This spiritual practice informs Alma’s company culture, encouraging recharge, respect, and ritual as foundations for better care.

During moments of global unrest, including recent Middle East tensions, Ritter extended Alma’s voice to advocate for empathy and mental health support, collaborating with organizations like Kav L’Noar and amplifying mental health needs during crisis.

Medical Training Meets Tech Execution

Before Alma, Ritter held key roles at Oscar Health, including Medical Director and VP of Care Delivery, where he helped scale value-based care models. His roots in medicine run deep, he practiced internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital after earning his degrees from Harvard Medical School and Yale Law School.

That dual fluency in medicine and policy is evident in how Alma functions: a modern healthcare company grounded in clinical insight and policy awareness.

Public Voice and Influence

With ~9,000 LinkedIn followers, Ritter is an active contributor to healthcare thought leadership. His posts regularly spotlight provider-first strategies, the importance of inclusive mental health, and updates on Alma’s innovations.

He’s also helped redefine what a mental health company can look like, not just digital-first, but values-led, community-driven, and deeply human.

“Video content builds communities. Communities create change,” Ritter recently shared, echoing a broader belief in content as a tool for connection and healing.
