Inside the media company teaching the startup world how to think in the age of AI

Dan Shipper

Dan Shipper, a New York–based entrepreneur, writer, and podcast host, is on a mission to merge thoughtful writing with frontier technology. As the Co-founder and CEO of Every, he’s helping reshape how professionals learn about business, productivity, and artificial intelligence through newsletters, tools, and audio.

From an early startup exit to thought leadership in the age of AI, Shipper’s path reflects a rare blend of technical insight and literary clarity.

From Student Startup to Scaled Success

Shipper began his entrepreneurial journey in 2011 as a student at the University of Pennsylvania. He co-founded Firefly, an enterprise software company that enabled collaborative browsing for customer support. By 2014, Firefly was acquired by Pegasystems, where Shipper led integration and product development.

This early success set the stage for his next act: transforming how tech-savvy audiences engage with big ideas.

Every: A Media Company for the Modern Thinker

Founded in 2020, Every is Shipper’s boldest venture yet — a subscription-based media company publishing essays, newsletters, and tools at the intersection of AI, business, and personal growth. It now reaches nearly 75,000 subscribers, including investors, startup founders, and technology leaders.

Through series like Superorganizers and his weekly Chain of Thought column, Shipper dives deep into productivity tools, the psychology of work, and how AI is reshaping creativity.

Building and Backing the Future

Beyond writing, Shipper wears several hats:

  • Podcast Host: On AI & I, he interviews top AI researchers and entrepreneurs, exploring how artificial intelligence is transforming workflows and industries.

  • Startup Incubator: Through Every, he helped launch Lex, an AI-powered writing assistant, and Spiral, a tool that helps creators summarize and repurpose their content.

  • Venture Scout: As a Sequoia Capital Scout, he advises and backs early-stage AI startups.

His role across media, technology, and investing reflects a growing influence in how modern creators and operators navigate complexity.

Public Recognition and Influence

Shipper’s work has earned attention from top platforms:

  • TED Speaker: Delivered a talk titled “The unexpected key to boosting your productivity,” offering counterintuitive insights on deep work and digital discipline.
